We opened our doors in August 2010 with 2 kindergarten classes. This year, we offer one Transitional Kindergarten (Jr. K) of 22 students as a part of the new 2-year kindergarten program, and two First and Second Grades with 26 students in each class. Kindergarten consists of one early and one late with 26 students per class. We also have added Third Grade for this year and a new grade level will be added each school year through Fifth Grade.
Star Academy's Key Components
Moderate Class Size
Differentiated, small group instruction provides an opportunity to meet individual needs in a maximum class size of 26 students. Enrollment in our Transitional Kindergarten class is 22 for students whose birthdays fall between September 1stthrough December 1st.
At Star Academy, academic literacy is the main thread that is woven through each discipline. Using research-based materials, we will develop each student’s reading level to proficiency by the end of second grade. Core subjects of math, science, social sciences and English/language arts will be supported through a hands-on, inquiry-based approach. The Transitional Kindergarten implements a developmentally appropriate, two-year kindergarten curriculum.
By the end of 5th grade, students will have acquired a working knowledge of several foreign languages, which may include Spanish, Mandarin, and American Sign Language.
Motivated students are expected to enter Star Academy with an attitude and desire to succeed within our high standards of self-discipline in academics, behavior, and attendance.
Each family is required to commit 30 hours per school year that contributes to the well-being of all students attending Star Academy.
